This is an update. Through Y-DNA testing, our family has found that Giuseppe Motta AKA Joseph Louis Mott was born Rocco Vincenzo Sarli (12 Aug 1857, Laurenzana, Italy - 4 Aug 1894, Morgan, CO), son of Egidiantonio Sarli (1817-1860) and Maria Carmela Marone (1821-1869). He played the harp in Giuseppe Pecora's musical troupe. He said that he was not at home when the murders occurred.

Thank you for the great article and the photo! Giuseppe Pecora entered the USA somewhere between 1871 and 1873 with several traveling boy musicians who played their harps and violins on the streets of numerous cities in the US and even into Mexico. Most of the boys were not home when the murders occurred. There were at least five other boys: Giuseppe Motta or Motti aka Joe Mott (died in Arizona in the 1890s), my great grandfather Giuseppe LaRocco aka Joseph LaRocco (died in Dingle, Idaho in 1896). Giuseppe Cassel or Casselli aka Joseph Castle (died in Price, Utah in 1936), Frank Pecora (died in Boise, Idaho in 1941), and Giovanni Pavese aka John Davis (died in Spring City, Utah in 1950).

May I refer you to my blog: sarlijournal.blogspot.com #30 post
Through dna tests and searching Laurenzana, Italy, civil records, I can tell you that harpist Joe Mott (1857-1894), mentioned by Craig LaRocco, was born in Laurenzana as Rocco Vincenzo Sarli, son of Egidiantonio Sarli and Maria Carmela Marone, and was one of these boys. He died in Morgan, Colorado. My uncle Dr. Joseph Mott and I have done a lot of research, but it was his Y-dna test that provided the greatest breakthrough to confirm the Sarli surname. Blog post #30 includes (1) Giovanni Pavese AKA John Davis (2) Giuseppe "Joe" LaRocco (3) Giuseppe Casella AKA Joe Castle (4) Francesco "Frank" Pecora (5, 6) brothers - Rocco Giuseppe Motto and Michele Santo Motto Blog #31 and #32 are also very pertinent to the subject. My research findings strongly suggest that the three youth victims were not Giuseppe Pecora's children, but were relatives. Interested parties may email me at dr_doremi@yahoo.com with additions or corrections, or perhaps photos and ideas for articles to post on my blog.
