I was a student at the University of Chicago in 1962 and "experienced" Thomas Riha. . He was terrifically engaging, carried himself as anything but quiet and professorial......more an unrestrained bombastic Cossack who on a dull day was simply flamboyant.....when energized, he was off the charts. Also, no female was safe within catching distance of him. He was a force of nature. Compelling, not at all unlikeable, but not in the UofC image of serious scholarship.

It was also believed (and reinforced by his own sidebar comments) that he was involved not only with the Czech secret police, but also the KGB and CIA. When he disappeared (we learned about it in a Time Mag article), we thought, well, maybe he wasn't just foolishly boasting.

....never slept in his class...

There is a podcast called Disappearances and there is an episode dedicated to Thomas. In it, the host dives into Galya's story and connection to Thomas and his wife and the other murders. Hearing that episode, I think she did it, not any government agency.
