Special Collections and Archives is pleased to announce that some of our most important and heavily accessed archival collections about the Chicano Movement in Denver and Colorado are now available digitally. The library partnered with Gale, publisher of scholarly research resources, to contribute to a primary sources database that is now accessible to library cardholders and visitors to any DPL branch.
Latino Social and Political Culture and History: Perspectives on the Chicano Movement includes fully digitized and keyword-searchable archival material from the following Western History Collections:
- Abelardo (Lalo) Delgado Papers (WH2119)
- Aguayo Family Papers (WH2035)
- Bernard Valdez Papers (WH1839)
- Flora Rodriguez Russel Papers (WH2458)
- Richard T. Castro and Virginia M. Castro Papers (WH2440)
- Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales Papers (WH1971)
- Tim Flores Papers (WH1991)
Researchers can search original documents created by writers, political figures, farmworkers, Chicano Movement activists, and labor organizers who worked for improved education, health care, and political representation for Mexican, Hispanic, and Latino Americans.
We appreciate the support of our project partners at Gale, Contract Archivist Ginny Jenkins, and the collection donors and descendants for making digitization and increased access possible. Members of the Gonzales family offered this project tribute: In memoriam of our father, Jefe Rodolfo Corky Gonzales, and our mother, Jefita Geraldine Ierne Gonzales. “Rest in Power.”
Available with a library card or at any DPL location.
