What an interesting and nostalgic article. I saw many shows at that place, including the Nig Heist show which was mentioned. I believe the Rainbow is is still known among collectors of live recordings due to the outstanding quality of the sound frequently captured there.

Loved the place. Favorite shows: Talking Heads, Echo & The Bunnymen and, of course, U2. Remember, U2 played here on their first US tour (1981?) and played another show at the tail end of the tour on their way home. I recall they seemed very tired at the second show. They also debuted their Blood Red Sky video (film) here in a private showing. I got in as a media member. It was longer that the released version. In fact, it was all about the legendary Red Rocks show, unlike the commercial video release. Those were the days. Plenty of great music venue, including Mercury Cafe, Walabes, The Garage, Mamouth Gardens, The Ogden etc.

Those were some classic Rainbow shows, JD. We're continually amazed at both the quality and quantity of the acts that made their way to Monaco and Evans!

I can't believe this comments list is still lively. Tribute to the Rainbow venue. I saw the Ramones, and the English Beat there. And I was there the night Nig Heist took the stage. It was nuts, but I had no idea it would be such a apart of history. Meat Puppets were magnificent that night.

Saw a cool variety of shows there: Twisted Sister, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Johnson and Stanley Jordan.

Wow, I missed so many shows there. Having moved to Denver in the late 88, I saw Tracy Chapman there. Great show and venue.

I’m amazed this comment thread is still going as well. Just moved back to Denver after decades away, and sad to see that the RMH sign got torn down as well as the Walgreens. Saw some great shows there, including the Dixie Dregs, who I’d never heard of until the day before and who blew me away with how tight and energetic they were. Also remember hanging out back and a group of us chatting with Chrissie Hynes after the Pretenders show. Good times!
