Several years ago, the "Denver Post" had a story on April Fools news reports. Off the top of my head, I remember stories about the Great Spaghetti Harvest and the Republic of Sans Seriefe.

The Swiss Spaghetti Harvest is certainly a classic, courtesy of the BBC. There have been lots of very clever April Fool's gaffes. One of my favorites involved burning hundreds of tires in the caldera of a mountain in Alaska (I forget the name), panicking a good portion of the population of Sitka into thinking the long dormant volcano was about to erupt. Terrible for the environment, but you have to admire the cleverness!

Re the cutline beneath the Denver street scene photo -- there is no "California Avenue" in Denver. Good writeup however.
