I think Clementine Jones is probably the story that would stick with me the most. The idea of a cat somehow making a roughly 1,600-mile journey and then showing up at her family's doorstep four months later is incredible, even if we'll probably never know exactly how much of the story is fact and how much became legend over time. I also love that, after all that adventure, her owners decided she was going to be an indoor cat from then on. 😄

What surprised me most, though, is how many of these stories there are. Cats being treated as local celebrities isn't really a modern internet phenomenon after all — Colorado apparently had famous, heroic and downright mischievous cats long before social media existed.
