That's not some 'unidentified Native American man'. That's Sitting Bull!
In 1884 he met Annie Oakley, whose marksmanship so impressed the Sioux warrior that he offered $65 for a photograph of the two of them together.

David F. Barry is my great great uncle (I also noted an Emily Barry who commented the same thing several years ago). He was my mother’s great uncle, Joan Barry Killian and her father’s (William Vernon Barry) uncle. The book The Little Shadow Catcher by Thomas Heski is about DF Barry. My grandparents, W. Vernon Barry and Cecelia Hibbeler Barry are credited in the book for assisting Heski and their picture is included. I’m currently working on a series of portraits of native Americans inspired by uncle Dave’s photos.
