Horse-drawn wagons are parked near buildings on Blake Street in downtown Denver, Colorado. Signs on the buildings read: "Wholesale Groceries," "H. Burton Storage & Commission," and "Missouri House." The hotel has other signs: "Bar Room," "Boarding," and long horned cattle are tethered among the horses. Water of the South Platte River is in the background.

A sheet with "The Denver Post Deadline Schedule" sits on the desk. The headline, about the 1947 prison break on which "Canon City" was based, reads: "2 Slain, 9 Captured, In State Pen Break, Stir Crazy Cons Lead Pen Break."
