The Denver Public Library was represented at the 2025 Association of African American Museums conference in Charleston, South Carolina, allowing the team to share knowledge, learn from, and network with peers from organizations such as the Smithsonian, the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, the International African American Museum, and others.
Presentations were held on the importance of oral histories, teaching Black history under the Trump Administration, and fundraising during an era of uncertainty. The conference also featured lectures by an activist who marched on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, AL, on Bloody Sunday, as well as by Civil Rights activists and Congressman James E. Clyburn.
Conferences such as the Association of African American Museums support our work by raising awareness of the challenges facing similar organizations, while sparking new ideas for our teams to share community histories using industry expertise and established best practices in the fields of museum studies and archival research.
