Meet Dwayne Meeks, Urban Colors Director/CO-Founder and author of the book Pieces Never Missing: How to Engage Fathers as Stakeholders in the Children’s Academic Achievement, and participate in a discussion on fatherhood engagement styles that facilitate healthy communication in a 21st Century Education System. Pieces Never Missing is scheduled to be released fall 2015.

Yalonda Benford-Balkcom

Monday, April 20, 6 p.m.

It began in 2011 with encouragement by a best friend to join the National Novel Writing Month Challenge: write 50,000 words in thirty days. She entered every year since then and came 100 words short each time. Now Yolanda is looking forward to the release of her first self-published dark urban fantasy, Anonymous. Dana Myles

Monday, April 27, 6 p.m.

Novelist Dana Myles joined the ranks of independently published authors in the summer of 2008, with her first book, Satin Sheet Memoirs, Volume 1 – a collection of erotic short stories and sensual poems. Since then, she’s self-published three additional books: Let There Be Life, Hello Diva and Breaking Point. Her latest novella, Aphrodite’s Twin, is scheduled to be released in 2015. This slice-of-life dramedy imagines what occurred the night of Cassius Clay’s historic win over heavyweight champ Sonny Liston. Declining a glamorous party, Clay celebrates with his friends: activist Malcolm X, singer Sam Cooke and football player Jim Brown. Each man argues his vision for what it means to be black in 1964, culminating in an early morning announcement from Clay that will shock the world.

Orphaned by the brutal Civil war in Sudan that began in 1983, these young victims traveled as many as a thousand miles on foot in search of safety. Fifteen years later, a humanitarian effort would bring 3600 lost boys and girls to America. In "The Good Lie,” Philippe Falardeau, (writer and director of the Oscar®- nominated Foreign Language film “Monsieur Lazhar”) brings the story of their survival and triumph to life. The Colorado Committee on Africa and the Caribbean (CCAC) is a social justice and human rights organization. CCAC seeks to broaden the public's awareness of the political, economic and social realities of African, Caribbean and Latin American societies. In metropolitan Denver most discussions and activities relevant to those regions occur on college campuses, usually at times when working adults cannot attend. Therefore, CCAC seeks to incorporate the general public, and most events are held on weekends and are free-of-charge.
