Great outreach with the resident collection. I always knew the 10th was talented, this confirms it again. The artwork is superb!

My good friend John Clayton became an Art Director for a big advertising company in Chicago Was a great artist and wood worker i miss him

Hi Ron, I am sorry for the loss of your friend. We are fortunate to have a collection of Mr. Clayton's in the 10th Mountain Division Resource Center that contains some of his cartoon drawings. We also have an oral history in which he talks about both his experiences with the 10th and his time in art school. You can listen to it online here: http://digital.denverlibrary.org/cdm/ref/

Many thanks for writing this beautiful article. I'm surprised to read that the soldiers then were supplied art materials such as charcoal pencils, sketchbooks, & watercolor kits. So the artists in their midst were able to capture these pretty sites on pen & paper before they were in rubbles.
