My family owns house that Countess Murat built in Palmer Lake. I am interested in any Katrina or Henri Murat details you have. She was the first person to sew and fly the American Flag in Colorado. Katrina died in the house in March 1913 and I am also wondering if she is in the Women's Museum in Denver. Thanks, Brian Middendorf

I have a fair amount of information on the Murats if you are still interested. I have that she died on 3/13/1910. She is buried next to her husband, Henri, in Riverside Cemetery, Denver.

Interesting read!
I was just reading the April 23, 1859 (first) edition of the Cherry Creek Pioneer, and I believe this hotel is mentioned: "...we have in addition a first class boarding house, wm. Murate."
However, they don't seem to consider this the same as a hotel because earlier in the article, they say there is one hotel and it's run by Blake & Williams from Iowa.

It also mentions an Eldorado Saloon run by Johnny Smith or John W. Smith, located at the corner of "Larimer and D streets, Denver City, Kansas." "...Liquors, Cigars and other luxuries..." "Call in, and take a look at Johnny's smiling countenance."
