The Library has an extensive collection of directories for Denver as well as other Colorado towns and selected directories for towns in other states. Many early city directories are available online in the Library's Digital Collections and in the Library in the Ancestry Library Edition database.
The collection consists of:
- City Directories, arranged by name and often showing occupations
- Householder Directories, arranged by address and often showing ownership
- Business Directories
- Telephone Books
Denver City Directories date from 1873-1923, though there are some years that are not digitized, and are arranged by name of resident or business name. Many also list occupations.
Denver Householder Directories date from 1924-1937, and are arranged by address and show owners, residents, and business names.
Images of the U.S. Federal Census from 1790 forward, the American Genealogical Biographical Index, immigration lists and over 9,000 more databases.
The Colorado Directories Index is a compilation of the Denver Public Library’s collection of City Directories and Telephone Books that is organized by municipality and county; as well as by year.
