Who knew food could be so interesting? Adrian Miller, local author and self proclaimed "soul food scholar" does!!! He is the ultimate southern/soul food foodie (aficionado of food). Adrian not only eats (literally) and sleeps the soul food experience, he also provides a very interesting historical view and back story about how southern cooking has evolved into a culinary favorite enjoyed all over the country in his first publication, Soul Food: The Surprising Story of an American Cuisine, One Plate at a Time.

Come prepared for a sweet and savory soul session where Adrian will discuss and sign his first book during the first hour of this event. Afterwards, Adrian will take you on an edible tour of soul food history. Each floor of the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library will feature the food and music of a different era in African American history.
The first floor's theme will be "Southern Rural" with church supper food served up with a serenade of spirituals, gospel music and civil rights movement songs. On the library's second floor, "North Urban” is the word with a spotlight on the salivating smells and sounds of a jazz club. On the library's third floor, you'll see the "Future of Soul Food" via vegetarian, vegan and health-conscious vittles while hip-hop music validates the vibe. Copies of Soul Food will be available for purchase.
