Mariolive Zavislan Beauty and the beast again step from fairyland. This time they are Miss Mariolive Zavislan and her five-year old Palomino, "Stardust 2," from Penrose. Mariolive has been chosen by the Fremont County Saddle Club to represent
Fremont County in in the contest among Colorado's saddle clubs to choose Miss Colorado State Fair for the 1944 rodeo in Pueblo, August 28, thru September 1.

The "Old Hanging Tree" - Valverde
This tree in the 1400 block of West Alameda was a Denver landmark since the city's founding, unti the six foot diameter cottonwood died and was cut down in 1923. Despite its name, evidence collected from "old timers," according to Denver Municipal Facts,
suggests that the tree was never actually used for lynching anyone.
