Making Sense of the American Civil War

Series ending @ Blair-Caldwell Library, but don't miss the wrap-up panel.

Saturday, October 6th @ 2pm will be the end of the Making Sense of the American Civil War Series at the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library and Thursday, October 11th @ 5:30p will end the series at the Ross-University Hills Branch Library. Special thanks to the NEH, ALA, Colorado Humanities and historian Patricia Richard (MSU) for making this lecture and discussion series possible. We’ve had a wonderful group of participants who have shared very unique and engaging perspectives on such a watershed moment in American History.

The fun is not over….Join us for a concluding panel discussion focusing on the past and present effects of the Civil War on African Americans. Each panelist will present their perspective followed with a Q&A session. Monday, October 8th, 6pm at the Blair-Caldwell Library.

Panelist Bios:
Winston Grady-Willis is professor and chair of African and African American Studies at Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Carnita Groves
, a Denver native, earned a B.A. in psychology from UCD, a M.A. in Counseling Psychology from the College of Education at DU.

Derrick Hudson is an Assistant Professor of International Relations in the Division of Liberal Arts and International Studies at the Colorado School of Mines, where he teaches undergraduate courses in International Relations, African History and in the Masters of International Political Economy of Resources (MIPER) program.

William M. King is Professor emeritus of Afroamerican Studies. He recently retired from the Department of Ethnic Studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder where he taught for forty years.
