Archives Workspace Gets a Facelift
Early in 2017, Western History and Genealogy archives staff moved back into our new and improved home on the 6th Floor of the Central Library.
Back in 2014, the City Auditor’s office conducted a review of our archives storage and workspace. The report confirmed what library staff knew, but hadn’t previously had the funds to address: the storage spaces were inadequate for archival material (historic documents, maps and photographs) and there was no separation between collection storage and staff workspace.
Thanks to Denver taxpayers, the Mayor and Denver City Council, the library embarked on a renovation of the 6th Floor during the last quarter of 2016. We now have a wall separating staff from collections, a preservation lab, better climate controls, ample storage, enough table space to process collections and a designated meeting/eating space (away from historic materials). It’s nice to have a new space that supports our workflow. We’re so pleased to be in a more efficient workspace where we can make more collections available to the public!
