Conditions for the Purchase of Digital and Print Reproductions

The Denver Public Library wishes to make its material as widely available as possible. Your interests and ours will be better served by reading the following conditions and procedures.

1. Reproductions of materials from the collections of the Denver Public Library Digital Collections are provided under license agreement for purposes as indicated by the user and agreed upon by the Library. Conditions governing their use are specified on a contractual agreement generated by the Library that is to be signed by the user.
2. All orders must be prepaid. All sales are final.
3. All responsibility regarding questions of copyright or invasion of privacy that may arise in the use of material that has been reproduced by the Denver Public Library must be assumed by the user.
4. The Denver Public Library gives no exclusive rights for the use of its material. Permission is granted for a one-time use only. Any subsequent use of an image requires the written permission of the Library and the payment of additional fees. Commercial use of images are priced and licensed based on usage.
5. It is the responsibility of the user to credit the Denver Public Library. Proper credit must be given to the creator if known. The preferred citation is as follows: Denver Public Library, Western History Collection, Call number.
6. The Denver Public Library does not allow its images to be used out of context or modified in any way that affects the historical integrity of the image.
7. Special requests not specifically mentioned within the above procedures will be considered and subject to special agreements. We reserve the right to charge additional fees for items that pose unusual difficulty in scanning.
8. The Library requests, and is appreciative of receiving, a free copy of the item containing the material that is published or produced.

Image Permissions

• To apply for permission to publish or reproduce images from the Denver Public Library Western History collections, please read and agree to the Denver Public Library Letter of Agreement for Use of Photographic Reproductions. The Letter of Agreement does not grant copyright permission but is a contract for permission to use photographs reproduced by our staff. Use in any commercial or editorial medium requires the user to agree to the Denver Public Library Letter of Agreement. Possession of an image does not constitute permission to use it.
• The image permission fees are separate from, and in addition to, image reproduction charges.
• Image permission is for a one-time, one project use only.
• The Denver Public Library reserves the right to decline permission to publishers and individuals who do not agree to the stated terms in the Denver Public Library Letter of Agreement for Use of Photographic Reproductions.

Other Fees, Tax and Discounts

Discounts

• A use fee of $10 per image will be charged to non-profit organizations which are reproducing images from the collection for non-commercial use such as scholarly journals, teaching tools, reports and display.

-OR-

• Customers ordering more than 10 images at a time are eligible for a 50% discount on use fees only.
• Discounts cannot be combined.

Rush Fees

Most non-rush orders will be filled within 10-14 working days. We do offer RUSH services on both digital and print images. The charge is double the cost of the normal processing fee. Rush orders are processed in 2-3 business days.

Setup Fees

Prices listed above are for existing digital images. An additional fee of $10 will be added for new scans.

Sales Tax

Denver sales tax is 7.62%.

Shipping and Handling Fees

$6.00 U.S. / $10.00 International. If your company has a FedEx number you may include this on your order form for faster service.

Research Fees

We offer research services for $15 per hour.

Other (Non-Digital) Methods of Reproductions in the Western History/Genealogy Department

Conditions

The Department does permit members of the Denver news media to copy photographs for use in newscasts or newspaper articles (not commercial productions). Images must be credited to the Denver Public Library. Artificial lighting must be approved by the Curator of Photographs. Arrangements must be made in advance by calling 720-865-1818.

Materials in the Western History/Genealogy Department of the Denver Public Library may be reproduced if the condition of the item allows and there are no restrictions.

The Library permits researchers to use their own cameras to photograph documents; however, there may be some restrictions. We do not permit the use of scanners.

Photocopying Fees

• Photocopies up to 11" x 17" may be made by the public at $.10 per page
• Printouts from the Internet terminals may be made for $.10 per page
• Manuscripts and fragile materials will be copied by the library staff at $1.00 per page
• Color copies up to 11" x 17" may be made for $1.50 per page
• Black and white copies up to 36" wide and 72” in length may be made for $15.00 per page

Film Footage, Videotapes, Audiotapes and Microfilm

Reproduction of material in these formats is done by an outside lab; fees vary. Please contact our photo sales staff for a quote.

Images from the Colorado Historical Society have a "CHS" call number.
