How to Access Records

 

Marriage License Applications: 1903-1933 – Not restricted

This is an open Collection (WH2052) from the Clerk and Recorders Office that consists of applications filled out by the bride and groom to legally request the right to marry in the City and County of Denver. These documents are not official marriage certificates since they are the application filed before an official marriage ceremony took place. Anyone can have access to this material. The customer must first fill out the manuscript request form at the Reference Desk on the 5th floor of the Central Library.

For copies, a Request for City and County of Denver Records form must be completed. The form is available here online (PDF) or at the reference desk of the Western History and Genealogy Department, Level 5 of the Central Library.

Requests will be processed within three business days. Copies of the Marriage License Applications will be mailed or picked up in person. All social security numbers will be redacted for privacy reasons.

Fees:

  • Search Fee – No search fee will be charged if customer provides the correct year of the marriage. Staff will also search the year before and after at no charge. If it is not possible to supply a specific year or range of years, you will be charged a search fee of $3.00 for the first year and $1.00 for each additional year.
  • Document Fee – The fee for a certified copy of a record is $3.00 per page. Otherwise copies are $2.00 per page.
  • Indicate the items desired on the request form and enclose the correct fee. Please make your check payable to Denver Public Library and mail to:

Marriage License Applications: 1934-2003 – Restricted

This restricted Collection (WH2053) of the Marriage License Applications date from 1934-2003. In order to view these records, proof of relationship to those named in the records or documentation to establish interest in these records is required (i.e. birth certificates, marriage certificates, insurance policies, court orders). The Marriage License Applications (1934-2003) are restricted for privacy issues. Those entitled to view these records include:

  • Bride
  • Groom
  • Mother
  • Father
  • Current legal spouse
  • Adult child (18+)
  • Adult sibling (18+)
  • Grandparents
  • Legal Guardians
  • Attorney

If identification or proper proof of relationship to those named in the records cannot be provided, contacting another party listed above to request the information is suggested.

For copies of the marriage license applications from 1934-2003, a Request for City and County of Denver Records form must be completed. A valid photo identification card and proof of relationship must be presented at the time of the request. Election Division: Voter Registration Records – Restricted

The voter registration records date from 1920-1991. In order to view these records, proof of your relationship to those named in the records or documentation to establish your interest in these records is required. (i.e. birth certificates, marriage certificates, insurance policies, court orders) The voter registration records are restricted for privacy issues. Those entitled to view these records include:

  • Voter named
  • Mother
  • Father
  • Current legal spouse
  • Adult child (18+)
  • Adult sibling (18+)
  • Grandparents
  • Legal Guardians
  • Attorney

If identification or proper proof of relationship to those named in the records cannot be provided, contacting another party listed above to request the information is suggested.

For copies of the voter registration records from 1920-1991, a Request for City and County of Denver Records form must be completed. If it is not possible to supply a specific precinct, you will be charged a search fee of $3.00 for the first precinct and $1.00 for each additional precinct for the research needed to correctly look up the information.
  • Document Fee – The fee for a certified copy of a record is $3.00 per page. Otherwise copies are $2.00 per page.
  • Indicate the items desired on the request form and enclose the correct fee. Please make your check payable to Denver Public Library and mail to:
