So many hip people have hung out in Denver, and still do. In the new book Beat Atlas: A State By State Guide To The Beat Generation In America [9], Bill Morgan gives a place by place account of scads of beat hot spots all over the country. Allen Ginsberg [10], Jack Kerouac [11], Neal Cassady [12] and their friends had plenty of wild times in Denver. Many of the places, like Charlie Brown’s, are still up and running, so you too can hit up happy hour in the same place these folks did. Did you know that Neal Cassady was at the Denver Public Library when he met Hal Chase, who Cassady later visited in New York City, where he met Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg for the first time. Far out! This book is available to view in the Western History & Genealogy department [7] of the Central Library [13]. Come take a look.
