The Western History and Genealogy Department is proud to announce that OCLC's CONTENTdm (Cdm), a digital asset management system, or DAM will be coming to the Department.
After a long process that started last year, WHG will be using Cdm to manage all of the digital assets of the department, including the Creating Communities project's 22,000 scanned images and the department's digital image catalog of over 100,000 images. Our images will reside in a state of the art Cdm digital archive, with full refresh and backups. In addition, we plan to have full eCommerce capability, which will make it easier for customers to purchase photographs from our digital collection. Cdm will enable the department to better manage its digital assets as well as provide a long term archival solution. We expect to fully impliment Cdm by the end of the year. A long term goal is to also include our finding aids as well as the general index into the DAM.
We're excited to have CONTENTdm in the department. The Creating Communities project now has a long term storage solution for its neigborhood and government collection images as well as integration with the Creating Communities website. With this digital asset management system in place, the Western History and Genealogy Department moves into the forefront of digital preservation. Our customers and staff can rest assured that our digital collections will be cared for and accessable for many years to come.
