Not the trendy Larimer street of today!

Today's Weird Photo Wednesday gives a view of what Larimer street once was, a part of Denver's skid row. Now we have expensive restaurants, high end shops, Starbucks and a street that attracts tourists. But at one time, Larimer street had cheap hotels, cheap bars and people not so fortunate. The city is always changing and this photo gives a sense of what it was like 40 years ago. For more information about this photo, click here. I first visited Denver in

I first visited Denver in 1961. We stayed in the Cory Hotel downtown, visited the zoo, the Montgomery Ward building (where we experienced our first elevator), May D&F, the Capitol building, the Celebrity Sports Center (where we encountered our first automatic door), and then Larimer Street. He took us to Larimer Street so we could see the winos. Apparently, this was an important part of the Denver experience, at least in my father's mind.
