Manuscript Monday: Horace Tureman Scores

Welcome to Manuscript Monday.  This week’s collection features handwritten sheet music by Denver Symphony composer and conductor Horace Elder Tureman.

Horace Elder Tureman was conductor of Denver’s Civic Symphony Orchestra, which later became the Denver Symphony Orchestra, and even later, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.  He conducted many performances in the years 1922-1944.  Tureman attended West High School in Denver, and studied under Debussy in Paris in 1908.  Horace Tureman’s collection is comprised of five boxes of handwritten musical scores.

If you like this collection, or just music in general, you may be interested also in the Denver Symphony Orchestra papers (WH941), which include 166 boxes of material!  Read more about that in our online finding aid.

This collection, and many many others, are available in the Western History and Genealogy Department of the Central Library.
