It's a beautiful day for golf.

Unidentified Denver golfers

Determined to enjoy the game, African-American golfers in Denver held a tournament to celebrate the summer.

Many golf courses in 1950s Denver found ways to exclude them.  A common obstacle was for a course to fill tee times with golfers from private whites-only clubs.  Burnis McCloud's photographs depict golfers who played the game anyway, despite the difficulties.

McCloud photographs may be viewed in the Western History Department. (WH1128)
