Occupy 1941

Occupy 1941

The Occupy movement is the hot topic in America today, but did you know that Americans were concerned about the rights of the 99% 70 years ago as well?

One of our keen researchers, Ginny Purvis-Smith, shared with us this snippet from the Bent County Democrat titled "Why Not Limit Profits?" published on October 10, 1941. Perhaps history really does repeat itself.

And speaking of history, Ginny's find is also a reminder of the treasure trove of information that resides in History Colorado's microfilmed newspaper collection, which has been residing with us at WHG during History Colorado's closure. We have enjoyed having this wonderful collection of newspapers at the library for the past couple years, and we will be sorry to say goodbye to it on December 31, 2011 when it moves back to History Colorado. The good news of course is that it is returning to its new and improved home! The Stephen H. Hart Library at History Colorado will reopen by appointment Wednesday through Friday beginning on January 25, 2012 until it officially opens to the public later in the spring of 2012.
