Collection Development in a New Millennium

How many times have you heard Denver described as a “cow town”?

It’s a phrase that evokes many images, and while Denverites do take pride in the prevalence of Western wear and friendly demeanors abounding in their city, Denver is not at all the dull, unsophisticated place that the title “cow town” assumes. Just look around and you’ll see instantly that Denver is a thriving metropolis, brimming with culture, industry, and technology. We are committed here in the Western History and Genealogy Department to building a collection that reflects the history of Denver and the region, and the materials housed in our department offer at once a broad and yet detailed look at how far we’ve come in the past 150 years. But what about where we’re going? History is in the making all the time, and it’s our job to make sure we capture the trends happening around us. And the exciting news is: You can help! Send us collection ideas. Consider donating materials to the library. If you know about a person or organization making waves in the community, or if you yourself are a pacesetter, consider giving us a call. History belongs to all of us - let's preserve it!
