Celebrating Hispanic Heritage in Colorado

The Western History and Genealogy Department is home to an ample collection of papers and records of Hispanic individuals and organizations in Colorado, including Federico Pena, Rodolfo "Corky" Gonzales, Polly Baca, Bernie Valdez, Su Teatro, and LARASA.

These collections include original correspondence, photographs, scrapbooks, founding documents, meeting minutes, and much more. WHG's Hispanic Acquisitions Committee, which is chaired by Lena Archuleta, plays an invaluable role in acquiring these collections, and I join the committee in urging Hispanic communities around Colorado to consider donating material to the library to help tell the story of Hispanic heritage in Colorado.

Beginning on Tuesday, June 2, an exhibit of Corky Gonzales' papers and memorabilia will be on display in the 5th Floor Gallery. The exhibit will be up all summer and is a wonderful way to learn about Corky's life and contributions, as well as see examples of the types of materials in our archival collections.
